Another word for tsunami is big wave. These giant waves are some of the world's greatest natural forces. Sometimes they are called tidal waves, but their power has nothing to do with tides. A tidal wave can push the sea upon the land, putting those who live near at risk. The year 2011 had a wave whose power destroyed the coast of Japan. It took place after an underwater earthquake. Not only did it destroy the land, it also devastated the spirit of the people. Many people had to move and the work to rebuild goes on to this day.
