Words

Do you know how many different languages there are? About 6,500 of them are spoken in the world today. Of these, English and Mandarin are the most common. Many new words are added all the time. When a known word cannot describe a new concept, English makes up a word to match the new idea. Mandarin combines one or more characters to form the new meaning. How the world is perceived is ever-changing. Words must change too. New words are conceived, and old ones disappear. Many languages have become extinct and the knowledge to speak them has been forgotten.
