Unit 19 Roman Numerals
Roman numerals use grade 1 indicators when needed to ensure that their meaning is understood. For example, "iv" does not need a grade 1 indicator but without the indicator, Roman numeral "x" would be misread as "it."
Examples:
iv | ⠊⠧ |
x | ⠰⠭ |
Uppercase Roman numerals follow the rules for capitalization. When there is more than one digit, the capital word indicator is used.
Examples:
I | II | III | IV | V |
⠠⠊ | ⠠⠠⠊⠊ | ⠠⠠⠊⠊⠊ | ⠠⠠⠊⠧ | ⠰⠠⠧ |
VI | VII | VIII | IX | X |
⠠⠠⠧⠊ | ⠠⠠⠧⠊⠊ | ⠠⠠⠧⠊⠊⠊ | ⠠⠠⠊⠭ | ⠰⠠⠭ |
Notice that the stand-alone "V" and "X" require the grade 1 indicator and that the grade 1 indicator precedes the capital letter indicator.
